“Treatment without Borders” is a non-governmental organization aimed at supporting Bulgarians in need of treatment abroad. In addition to providing information on patient rights and opportunities in cross-border healthcare and the funding of such treatments, our team also offers on-site assistance. Some of our volunteers would be able to help you with translation in the hospital or advise you about the city where the treatment will take place. We know that treatment abroad is accompanied by a lot of stress – from raising funds to the recovery process after the treatment itself. Contact us and we will do our best to help you.
“Treatment without Borders” was established in 2013 by a group of enthusiasts participating in the Incubator for Social Entrepreneurship of “Ideas for Bulgaria: Ideas Are Us”, and in April 2014 we received the first email from a family, which put their trust in us at a difficult time for them. Еver since, the number of cases and patients that have been handled by our team has expanded greatly. So far, we have received nearly 1000 unique inquiries from over 850 patients. We are proud to report being able to offer assistance and support to over 720 of them – our network consists of over 380 volunteers in 19 countries across Europe and North America. For these few years, in addition to expanding, we have succeeded in establishing ourselves as an official Non-Governmental Organization; we translated a few informational campaigns; we have also appeared several times in media and created many new friendships.
Over time, we have come to understand that knowing medical terms is far from being our highest necessity (there are professional translators for terms). Our primary role is supporting patients and their families before, during and after treatment and in the almost inevitable clash with bureaucracy.
